Lakshmi

The Abundant: Worth, Receiving, and the Nervous System That Can Hold Plenty

Mantra: Om Shreem Mahalakshmiyei Namaha

The archetype

Lakshmi is the archetype of the person whose nervous system has learned that receiving is safe, that abundance is not dangerous, and that worth is not earned through suffering. She represents the psychological state of genuine receptivity: the capacity to let good things land rather than deflect, minimize, or preemptively lose them.

Nervous system mapping

Lakshmi's energy maps to the nervous system's relationship with the sacral chakra and the capacity for approach energy. The worth wound is a specific nervous system pattern in which the abundance circuit has been calibrated to expect inadequacy. Lakshmi represents the repair of this circuit: the nervous system that can both call in and genuinely hold what arrives.

Core teaching

You cannot call in what your nervous system believes you do not deserve. Abundance practices that skip the worth wound are working at the level of the mind while the body remains calibrated for scarcity. The inner work Lakshmi requires is the slower, more honest process of updating the nervous system's prior prediction about what you are allowed to receive.

The wound they address

Lakshmi addresses the worth wound directly, the belief encoded in the nervous system that abundance is for others and that receiving requires justification. She speaks to the person who deflects compliments, overworks as proof of deserving, and holds their own needs at a distance.

Somatic practice

Practice receiving something small without deflecting: a compliment, a gift, a moment of genuine care. Instead of minimizing or redirecting, pause and let it land. Feel what happens in the body when you allow yourself to be the recipient. Lakshmi's somatic practice is building tolerance for being the one who receives.

Modern application

When you find yourself working harder than necessary to justify your place, or deflecting good things before they fully arrive, ask what the nervous system is protecting against. Lakshmi's energy is the practice of pausing before the deflection and asking whether there is actually any reason this good thing should not be for you.

Research connection

Jaak Panksepp's research on the SEEKING system, the brain's primary approach and reward circuitry, demonstrates that chronic environments of deprivation can calibrate this system toward expectation of inadequacy. Lakshmi's work is the recalibration of the SEEKING system toward genuine receptivity.
