The Original Self

You are closer to yourself than most people get.

Your results have been sent to your inbox.

Something is working. The version of you that other people encounter is close to the version that exists in the interior. You know what you want and you say it. You do things for yourself without excessive justification. You have not eliminated the managed or adaptive self — but you are not run by it. The work now is maintenance: noticing when you drift and returning.

What this means

Closeness to yourself is not a permanent state. It is a practice. The noticing of drift and the returning is the whole practice.

The people who reach the original self do not report the relief of arrival. They report the quieter satisfaction of not having to perform.

Continue the work not because you are broken but because the original self is worth the ongoing attention.
