The Performed Self
There is a gap between who others know and who you are. It is widening.

There is a version of you that the world receives, and a version that exists in the interior. The gap between them has been growing. Not because you are dishonest, but because the authentic version has been consistently edited before it reaches the room. You know what you want and don't say it. You have work no one has seen. The performance requires continuous management of the gap.
What this means
The gap between the performed self and the original one was created by accumulated small contractions. It can be narrowed by accumulated small returns.
The work that no one has seen is the most honest measure of where the performing is happening. What you have created and kept private is the interior the performance has been protecting.
Closing the gap does not require a single dramatic revelation. It requires smaller, repeated acts of allowing the genuine response to arrive before the managed one.
