Dimension 07 of 13
Meaning and Direction — The Dharmic Question
Logotherapy, dharma, and the unlived life
Viktor Frankl established that the search for meaning is not a luxury — it is a primary human drive, and its frustration is a distinct form of suffering. In Vedic psychology, this corresponds to dharma: the specific path of contribution and expression that is aligned with a person's nature. The unlived life — the life that remains unchosen, or perpetually deferred — is what happens when this dimension is suppressed.
The wound pattern
The wound in this dimension is the gap between the life that is and the life that is already yours. This gap is not caused by laziness or lack of ambition. It is maintained by a nervous system that learned, in the original relational field, that choosing oneself was dangerous.
The healing path
The healing path in this dimension requires that the nervous system work come first. You cannot choose a life from a dysregulated body. The choice becomes available as safety becomes available — and that is the correct sequence, not the reverse.
