Relationships — The Attachment Field
Love, intimacy, and the relational nervous system
Every significant relationship is, at least in part, a re-enactment of the original attachment field. The person you chose, the dynamic that developed, the specific wound that keeps surfacing — these are not accidents. They are the nervous system's attempt to resolve, through familiar relational territory, what was never resolved in the original.
The wound pattern
The relational wound is the pattern of loving people who require the same performance the original environment required — and the simultaneous inability to receive love that does not fit the original template.
The healing path
Relational healing requires both nervous system work and the gradual development of the capacity to tolerate difference — to be with someone who does not organize around the original wound. This is not choosing better people. It is becoming someone whose nervous system can recognize safety when it arrives.
